The phrase 'we just want the best for our baby' has become a misnomer over the years. Since the economic meltdown, many have been brought down to earth and reassess what really is important in their lives, including what children really need.
Minyanville.com lists their top 10 baby luxuries we won't miss:
1. Bugaboo Chameleon ($1,000 USD)
Can't really comment on this one since we own a pair relatively expensive strollers (Peg Perego Switch and Maclaren Quest). Although, I wouldn't dare go into the Bugaboo price range.
2. Little Marc Jacobs Mary Janes ($198 US a pair)
Why don't we have Tarjay in Canada?
3. A British Nanny ($500-$650 USD per week) - trained at Bath's Norland College
Don't we all wish Mary Poppins just popped in through our window?
4. Burberry Check Baby Onesie With Bonnet ($144 USD)
I've seen a Burberry Outlet store gone wrong. When they're piled on with the rest of your puked, soiled baby clothes - they don't seem luxurious anymore.
5. Gucci Diaper Bag ($870 USD)
I have to say, my grandma owns a bunch of gucci bags that are over 25 years old. These things last. But, I'd rather get my wife a nice Gucci bag for herself rather than for my baby.
6. Hermes Plush Horse ($970 USD)
This is more expensive that our bed.
7. Eye Spy Cashmere Ribbon Blanket ($205)
Cashmere? I don't even own a cashmere sweater. Dry Clean Only?? Enough said.
8. Recaro Car Seats ($290)
Not really sure why this is placed in the luxury category since Britax Car seats cost around the same and more. Is there really too high a price for your child's safety?
9. Bill Amberg Shearling Baby Papoose ($550 USD)
Seriously? A leather and suede baby carrier. Don't they know babies throw up and poop up their back?
10. Heelarious Crib Shoes ($34.95)
Why on earth would a baby need "her first high Heels' in a crib? Sure looks like a fun thing to have if you can find it somewhere on Craigslist.
It's interesting though this list. Do you have a splurge item you bought for your baby that you kind of regret (or not regret) buying?
