We went to a Please Mum Sample Sale this morning and got up bright and early to be there. The sale started at 9 and we were there promptly. To our surprise (or not), the line-up was already snaking around the block. Initially we were told the wait would only be 10-15 minutes. Later, we were told 30-40 minutes. All in all, before we got into the warehouse, it was an hour and half later.
There we were amongst an excited group of parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles waiting our turn for cheap clothes and accessories for children. The sale was really good. Tops and bottoms were $3 each. Winter jackets for $10 each. Accessories for $1. Tax-free. Proceeds were going to charity.
A long line-up of parents with children can get a little testy. Especially when people are trying to cut in line. Seriously, some people don't know the concept of a line or waiting for their turn. We were next to be let-in. But all these random new people kept coming to the front of the line. I had left with my son to get his bottle in the car while my wife kept out place in line. By the time I had come back, suddenly there were a dozen people in front of us.
In my annoyance, I spoke up and said "We were here first along with these two ladies. Everyone here should be behind us!". They weren't listening so I raised my voice a little and said it again. They started to scurry back a little. The two other ladies that were behind us originally, thanked me for sticking up for us.
But when the security guard pointed to us to go in next, the unruly group who do chose to ignore any sense of order whatsoever decided to rush in a long with us. Argghhh! I understand that everyone's gets restless waiting in a line. But, any sense of fairness to everyone who was waiting patiently in line, escaped some people.
Anyhow, we got in. The place looked like a war zone as everyone scavenging for cheap clothes. For sure, everyone saved a lot of money. Everyone came out with at least two large bags full of stuff as did we.
We didn't leave until 1230 p.m. I told my wife later on that next year, if they have this sale again, I will stay home with our son. She can go with a friend or my mom.
Tips to going to warehouse/sample sales:
- Bring cash just in case they don't take credit or debit cards.
- Eat before you go. Hungry tummies = short fuses.
- Try to ignore the crazy people.
- If you have to bring your kids, bring their 'security' item (i.e. bottles, pacifiers, blankets, toys). Place infants in a carrier as strollers can be very hard to maneuver around rabid shoppers.
- Make a list of people who you want to shop for. And make a list of stuff what you think you need/want.
- Shop for larger sizes they would need later. Kids grow up fast.
- Grab whatever you think you want then edit.
